Stitching Through History: An Embroidery Workshop

with Marlee Putnam from Historic St. Mary’s City

Stitch your way through 400 years of history! Whether you’re new to embroidery or a seasoned stitcher, this workshop offers a hands-on look at 17th-century needlework. Learn traditional techniques, explore colonial “samplers,” and create your own piece inspired by the beautiful museum landscape.

Marlee Putnam began her career at Historic St. Mary’s City in 2019, after completing her master’s degree in history at Virginia Tech. As Public Programs Manager, Marlee’s major role is to develop and implement a wide variety of educational programming, from school tours centered around state curriculum standards to creative workshops and presentations that engage a diverse range of audiences. Having studied maritime and public history, as well as having worked at several living history and historical institutions, Marlee has found her niche at HSMC.
