Beekeeping is a fun, engaging and rewarding hobby. Not many hobbies can make you money, this one actually can. We can sell our honey, our bees and hive products. First you need to learn how to manage these tiny little creatures-considered livestock in our state. It's not hard work but there is a lot to know. This class will be an introduction to the world of beekeeping here in Southern Maryland. We will showcase the Association of Southern Maryland Beekeepers while explaining and demonstrating current equipment, management styles and discussing regional climate differences, forage and costs.

Association of Southern Maryland Beekeepers

The Association of Southern Maryland Beekeepers has been the leading organization for teaching and supporting beekeepers/beekeeping since 1976. Some of the biggest names in beekeeping such as Dewey Caron and Ann Harmon came from our organization. We run the honey shows at the tri-county fairs and participate in events all around Southern MD. You will find us at Insectival, RiverFest, The Sunflower Festival, Earth Day Events, and many more. At our Spring meeting and dinner, we had more than 70 beekeepers from around the region in attendance. It was a fun and educational event.  We will continue to educate and support beekeepers and the hobby/business in general for many years to come.
